My Story
A little bit about me, Bita Thenoux the designer.
I started my career in the fashion industry 11 years ago as an entrepreneur. I was still in college studying Fashion design and Textiles. I started "Athenea Vita" designing shoes that I could not find in the market looking up to big designers from all around the world. I worked side by side with Eduardo, a Chilean shoe maker that was an extremely talented Artisan. He thought me the insides and out on how to make fine handmade shoes, so I could design daring styles with the perfect fit. I successfully build up this brand and open up a store with loyal clientele. After a couple of years I sold this brand to start my career as a retail designer with the only hope that I could gain experience and become a knowledgeable designer. I quickly learn to work in a fast-paced ambiance, keep up with multiple delivery dates, create trend forward collections, with brand coherence and a business oriented view.
I had the chance to keep learning about technical skills like pattern cutting, fitting and different textile behaviors working with experienced dressmakers. Worked hand in hand with graphic designers, branding and developing graphics material for prints and patterns.
After a year working as an assistant designer for the most successful Denim Designer in Chile I got promoted to Lead Designer of the Men's Department.
With over three years working in the Denim Industry, I gain myself a name as a skillful Denim Professional. This gave me the opportunity to work for a Brazilian Brand, acknowledged as High-End Urban/Denim Company. I work as a Men's Denim and Outerwear Lead Designer with buyer Responsibilities. I traveled the world cool-hunting, going to fashion shows and meeting suppliers. I design the collections and oversaw every step until it was on our showroom. Once in the showroom I arranged meetings with potential clients to explain the collection and complete their orders.
This is when I decided to make a bold decision and move to the States. I further my education and went to New York City to study Fashion Merchandising at FIT and then I made a quick stop to Los Angeles to get a certificate as a Fashion Consultant. A couple of months later I was in love with California and decided to stay and try my luck in San Diego.
It wasn’t easy but neither boring, San Diego was an opportunity to reinvent myself and get re-inspire as an artist. I had to start building my career from zero. Got myself a couple of jobs as fashion stylist for different renown brands but always trying to find my creative space in each brand and use my fashion knowledge to help in visual merchandising, window displays, social media, basically anything where I could show my skills more in the creative spirit. I took this “step back” in my career, as a learning experience and I don’t see it has a step back any more, it was for sure a step forward for me as an artist and as person. I learned so much, a new culture much more fashion forward and open minded, from different people and different backgrounds, giving me freedom as a creative soul and an experience Designer and Fashionista.
